SCARBROUGH FIELD                         NORTHWEST  RANKIN  BASEBALL  2012

Over the last 23 years Wesley Scarbrough Field has undergone several makeovers and facelifts. This year will prove to be no different. The hard work of Coach McClaskey, assistant coaches, players and parents are what has made these facilities what they are today. The facilities that the Cougars call home are second to none. In order for these facilities to get to what we are blessed to have, many hours of fundraising and manual labor have taken place over the years. The coaches, parents, and players have raised over $850,000 over the past 22 years which is how long Coach McClaskey has been here as the Head Coach. In the past few years the baseball program has been averaging around $80,000 a year in fundraising money. For the past five years the Cougars have been holding three major fundraisers. These fundraisers are the Hit-A-Thon, The Thanksgiving Smoke-Off and the Grand Slam Club.

In the past nine years the baseball programs has undertaken many projects to upgrade the facilities. Some of these projects include a top of the line weight facility, new bleachers with stadium seats, new coaches’ office and player locker room with state of the art wooden lockers with a lounge and double-sided hitting cage with lights. The program has also built a new outfield fence with the monster wall in center field.  The Cougars spent $60,000 to resurface the field.

Last year the Cougars spent $80,000 on two huge additions to the facilities. The Cougars added an enclosed pitching cage with four mounds. With all turf flooring and portable mounds, the lit enclosure will continue to keep the Cougars facility equal to none. The Cougars also rebuilt both dugouts increasing the size of both and placing netting and addition storage space in both. The Home dugout will be both heated and cooled to help deal with the fickle weather of Mississippi. This year the Cougars will embark on three projects. One, they will paint the weight room and increase additional storage. Two, they will turf the home batting cage. Three, they will replace all padding on the back stop and replace the net in front of the bleachers. If they have enough money, they will also replace the entire outfield fence.

All of the improvements that have been made on the facilities were paid for by money raised by the baseball program. None of the baseball program’s money comes from the district or the school. Hopefully with the hard work of the parents, coaches and players the NWR Baseball program will continue to make improvements to the our facilities.
